Prayer Wheels (Tibetan: འཁོར་ལོ། ) are used in Tibetan Rituals as a meditation tool that incites purification on your path to nirvana. Turning or spinning the Buddhist prayer wheels is considered so powerful that, it is compared with the power of one hundred monks praying for their whole life.

The Prayer Wheels are filled with hand written copies of mantra of Avalokiteshvara, “om mani padme hum.” The mantra is printed on very thin tissue paper as many times as possible, in some cases numbering thousands. The paper is wrapped around a spindle and covered with a protective cylinder. At the core of the cylinder is a “Life Tree” often made of wood or metal. Many thousands (or in the case of larger prayer wheels, millions) of mantras are then wrapped around this life tree.

How to Use

To initiate Meditation and Intention, spin the Prayer Wheel anticlockwise to invoke thousands of prayers with just one turn of the wheel. According to the lineage texts on prayer wheels, prayer wheels are used to accumulate wisdom and merit (good karma) and to purify negativities (bad karma).

Mantra Meaning

+ OM- It represents the vibration of the universe, divine energy, generosity, and purifies the ego.

+ MA- It represents the purification and ethics of jealousy and entertainment.

+ NI- It represents patience and purifies passion and desire.

+ PAD- It represents diligence and purifies ignorance and judgment.

+ ME- It represents concentration and purifies attachments.

+ HUM- It represents wisdom and purifies the aggression and haters.
