This incredibly special wall hanging is a genuine and original antique Buddhist Temple Scroll from North Thailand. It was painted over a 100 years ago by special temple artists who were employed to recreate aspects of Buddha’s life.

This one depicts Buddha seated in meditation at the moment that he achieved a state of Enlightenment. Buddha was born Prince Siddhartha Gautama in the 5th Century BC. He led a privileged and entitled life until one day when he left the palace and saw for himself the suffering of ordinary people. He couldn’t stay a prince and left his comfortable life to find meaning. He wandered for many years until he eventually sat under a Bodhi tree and began to meditate. He vowed to stay there until he had reached an understanding of how to alleviate the suffering of mankind.

In this scroll we see him in that state; guarded by the seven graded Naga, a serpent-like creature who is his protector. Koh fish are seen swimming in the water below his seat, representing his ability to swim against the current and persevere through life’s challenges.

The rich and earthy colour palette is strikingly beautiful and exudes a warm and calming spiritual vibe. It looks perfect in the modern home and styles well with neutral tones as well as boho, eclectic and period decor. In a wellness space the wall hanging is an inspirational reminder of the spiritual path.
